Abstract A thermodynamic optimisation of the Al-rich corner of the quaternary system AlFeMnSi was carried out by the CALPHAD method.The system was described on the basis of the experimental data available in the literature in the concentration range up to 3.0 wt% Fe,4.0 wt% Mn and 14.0 wt% Si.For the description of the -Al(FeMn)Si quaternary intermetallic phase,the Thermodynamic assessment of the MnNiO systemAbstract Experimental data on thermodynamic properties and phase relations of the ternary MnNiO system were reviewed,and by use of the CALPHAD method,a consistent set of model parameters was optimised.The solid oxide phases were modelled using the compound energy formalism.The model allows representation of non-stoichiometry and solid solution in the phases.Thermodynamic assessment of the MnC system -The manganesecarbon system has been assessed by means of the CALPHAD method.There is a previous description of this system [W.Huang,Scand.J.Metall.,19 (1990) 2632],but since then a number of high quality experimental investigations have been published.
